Why This Peru & Bolivia Journey Is Different

Luxury That Respects Landscape

Delfin III—not a cruise ship, a floating boutique lodge with teak decks and panoramic suites. Titilaka Lodge on a private Lake Titicaca peninsula. Palacio del Inka inside a 500-year-old colonial mansion built over Inca stones. Palacio de Sal constructed entirely from salt. These aren't hotels—they're part of the story.

Access Others Don't Have

Two visits to Machu Picchu (most tours give you one rushed morning). Nazca Lines overflight from Pisco. Private boat charter to Ballestas Islands. Three nights aboard Delfin III exploring Pacaya Samiria Reserve with naturalists who read the jungle like a book. Sunrise at Uros floating islands before tour groups arrive. Casa Aliaga—oldest mansion in the Americas, home to sixteen generations of one family, not open to public tours.

Guides Who Make Complexity Simple

The Amazon naturalist who spots a three-toed sloth from 200 meters. The Cusco historian who explains why Sacsayhuamán's stones fit without mortar (spoiler: it's not aliens, it's genius). The Uyuni guide who stages perspective photos that break your Instagram. They don't recite facts—they reveal why these places matter.

The Hiram Bingham Experience

Most people take the tourist train to Machu Picchu. You board the Hiram Bingham by Belmond—brass band greeting, champagne poured in crystal, mahogany interiors, live Peruvian music, four-course lunch with Chilean wine as the Andes slide past. The train itself becomes the journey. On the return, it transforms into a celebration: full bar, dancing, laughter echoing as you glide back to Cusco. This isn't transport—it's theater.

Your journey begins in Lima, a city suspended between desert and ocean. As you drive in, cliffside parks open to wide views of the Pacific, surfers trace the waves below, and the city immediately feels expansive rather than dense.

Dinner is served at the hotel , a calm, welcoming introduction to Peru’s culinary world. This evening is intentionally gentle, allowing your body to recover from travel and your senses to begin adjusting to a new rhythm.

Driving time: ~1.5 hours

The morning unfolds in Lima’s UNESCO-listed Historic Centre, where Spanish colonial power was once concentrated. At Casa Aliaga, still inhabited by the same family since the 16th century, history feels lived-in rather than curated.

Walking through Plaza Mayor and the Santo Domingo Convent, you begin to understand how layers of conquest, faith, and governance shaped the city.

The experience deepens at the Larco Museum, housed in an 18th-century mansion surrounded by gardens. Here, artefacts spanning more than 5,000 years reveal civilisations that flourished long before the Incas , expressed through goldwork, ceramics, textiles, and ritual objects.

Lunch is enjoyed within the museum grounds, offering time to pause and absorb what you’ve seen.

In the evening, dinner at Huaca Pucllana unfolds beside an illuminated adobe pyramid built over 1,500 years ago. Dining here is not just about food, it is a striking encounter between Lima’s ancient past and contemporary life.

From Paracas, a private boat excursion takes you to the Ballestas Islands, where sea lions lounge on rocky outcrops and seabirds wheel overhead. Life here thrives against seemingly harsh conditions.

From Pisco, you board a light aircraft for a flight over the Nazca Lines. From above, vast geometric shapes and animal figures emerge from the desert floor- precise, silent, and still unexplained. Their scale and isolation leave a lasting impression.

Lunch features a ceviche experience in Paracas before the drive back to Lima. Dinner is served overlooking the Pacific, closing a long but deeply rewarding day.

Stays where views breathe

Hotel Palacio de Sal, Uyuni

Built entirely of salt, this one-of-a-kind hotel rises from the vast white silence of the Salar. Every wall, table, and sculpture carved from the land itself — a surreal, soothing space that feels dreamlike, otherworldly, and impossibly real all at once.

Atix Hotel, La Paz

Perched high in the Andes, Atix is modern Bolivia — sleek, artful, and rooted in culture. Each space showcases local craftsmanship, fine cuisine, and panoramic views of the Valley of the Moon — a perfect finale to your South American odyssey.

Sol y Luna, Relais & Châteaux, Sacred Valley

Cradled between the Andes, this garden retreat celebrates Peru's artistry — adobe casitas filled with handwoven textiles, mountain views from every window, and a table where Andean ingredients become poetry.

Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Cusco

Five centuries of history live within its walls. Once a colonial mansion built over an Inca temple, today it offers quiet courtyards, vaulted ceilings, and art-lined hallways where stone and time converse. It's Cusco at its most refined.

Real InterContinental Lima

At the crossroads of Lima's cosmopolitan pulse and its colonial soul, the InterContinental offers understated elegance — soft linens, ocean-toned interiors, and a calm that contrasts the city's lively rhythm. The perfect base for your first impressions of Peru.

Hotel Paracas, a Luxury Collection Resort

Set along the sapphire coast of the Pacific, this resort blends coastal serenity with contemporary design. Here, glass walls frame sunsets, the air smells of salt and jasmine, and every evening feels like a postcard from the sea.

Delfin III Amazon Cruise

A floating boutique lodge on the Amazon — teak decks, panoramic suites, candlelit dinners, and days unfolding through mist, river, and forest. The Delfin III is less a cruise than a passage into another world, guided by naturalists who read the jungle like a book.

Titilaka Lodge, Lake Titicaca

On a private peninsula overlooking the world's highest navigable lake, Titilaka is pure stillness. Dawn breaks in rose light over the water, evenings fade into starlight. Inside, modern design meets Andean soul — minimalist, mindful, and deeply serene.

Frequently Asked Questions

down arrow to open

What's the investment for this journey?

From USD $17,400 per person based on double occupancy. Single supplement available. Contact us for exact quote based on your travel dates.

Can I travel solo?

Absolutely. Single-room supplement available for your own room throughout the journey.

What's the physical activity level?

Moderate with some altitude considerations. Walking tours in Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu. Amazon skiff rides and jungle trails. Lake Titicaca boat excursions. Uyuni salt flat exploration by 4x4. Machu Picchu involves stairs and altitude (2,430m/7,970ft). Cusco is at 3,400m (11,150ft). Activities can be adjusted to your pace.

What about altitude sickness?

Cusco, Lake Titicaca, and Uyuni are at high altitude (3,400-4,335m). We build acclimatization time into the itinerary. Consult your doctor before traveling. Coca tea and oxygen are available at hotels. Our guides are trained in altitude awareness.

Check current requirements for Peru and Bolivia. Most nationalities receive visa-free entry stamps on arrival, but requirements change. Contact us for assistance.

Is travel insurance required?

Mandatory. Must cover medical, evacuation, trip cancellation, and personal belongings. Not included in journey price.

What about the Amazon cruise?

Delfin III is a 43-passenger floating boutique lodge (not a large cruise ship). Suites have panoramic windows, rain showers, private terraces. All excursions included: skiff safaris, canopy walks, kayaking, village visits, naturalist-led explorations.

What makes the Hiram Bingham special?

Most tourists take standard trains to Machu Picchu. The Hiram Bingham by Belmond is luxury incarnate: brass band greeting, champagne, mahogany interiors, four-course meals, live music, full bar. The train journey becomes part of the experience, not just transport.

Why two visits to Machu Picchu?

Most tours rush through in one morning. Two visits let you experience different light (mist at sunrise, golden afternoon), different crowds (quiet early morning vs. midday energy), different perspectives. Our guides reveal new corners each time.

Who leads the journey?

Dedicated Absolute Journey tour leader, supported by expert local guides—Amazon naturalists who spot three-toed sloths from 200 meters, Cusco historians who explain Inca stonework genius, Uyuni guides who stage surreal perspective photos.

Can I extend my trip?

Yes. Additional nights in Lima, Cusco, or extensions to Patagonia, Galápagos, or other South American destinations can be arranged. Contact us for tailored options.

Why is this different from other Peru tours?

Small groups (16 max). Delfin III Amazon cruise (not a budget riverboat). Hiram Bingham luxury train (not tourist train). Two Machu Picchu visits (not one rushed morning). Titilaka Lodge on private Lake Titicaca peninsula. Uyuni salt flat picnics in the middle of infinity. Guides who know which Lima restaurant serves the best ceviche, which Cusco market opens before dawn. Access that requires relationships built over decades, not booking sites.
