Himalayan Kingdom

Kalimpong, Ravangla, Pelling, Rinchenpong

Brief

Immerse yourself in Sikkim’s ancient Buddhist culture as you travel to beautiful hilltop monasteries and the ruin-filled capitals of the chogyal kings. Sikkim is a fully organic state, and you’ll experience this firsthand on a relaxing farm stay, where you can eat locally grown food and even learn how to cook Sikkimese dishes. Springtime brings with it a riot of red and white rhododendrons, and the best place to soak up nature’s bounty is at the Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Highlights

  • Visit the scenic Ralang Monastery and hot springs
  • Visit the small mountainside hamlet of Kewzing
  • Explore the ruins of a former capital city at Rabdentse
  • Experience life on an organic farm
  • See springtime flowers in bloom on a trek in the Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary

DAY 1-3

Discover the beautiful Himalayan countryside in Kalimpong and Ravangla. In the meandering market lanes of these quiet hill towns, you can sample local cheese and dumplings, shop for fine tea and crafts. The region’s rich Buddhist culture is preserved in its many monasteries, and the beautiful outdoors is best explored on long mountain walks.

DAY 4-7

As the base of many high-altitude treks into the Himalaya, Pelling is a vibrant little town with quaint cafes and lovely mountain trails. When the clouds part, you’ll have stunning views of the snow-covered Kanchenjunga. You’ll visit ancient hilltop monasteries and the ruins of old royal capitals, and experience the deliciously languid pace of life on an organic farm.
