Japan

Japan is where dizzyingly fast-paced cities meet ancient traditions, where glitzy new technology meets a deep-seated reverence for nature, and where vibrant nightlife meets the serenity of zen gardens. Japan is a study in contrasts, and therein lies its charm.

From Tokyo’s pulsating shopping districts to Kyoto’s ancient temples, Japan’s major cities are hotbeds of art and culture. You could check out art in cool galleries or track down anime robot installations in the street, you could meditate in tranquil Shinto shrines and sample some of the freshest flavours and most innovative dishes.

Here in the far east, nature is sacred; it is mountains and trees and rivers that are worshipped. Japanese culture revolves around these entities, whether it is the magical ritual of hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, or the therapeutic practice of visiting onsen, or natural hot springs, to soak. Come with us to the mystical land of the rising sun, and we’ll take you from beautiful alpine slopes to cozy traditional Ryokan inns for an unforgettable holiday.

These large wooden houses have steep-thatched roofs, designed to withstand heavy snow, and the village is dotted with several of these old-world structures. Take a walk around the area to see this unique architectural style.
